TURKEY AND THE KURDISH «ENCLAVE» IN SYRIA

With the military and territorial defeat of the Islamic State it was expected that the war in Syria had come to an end.

Yet it continues, opening up dangerous new frontiers of conflict, such as the military operation conducted by Turkey against Kurdish “terrorists” affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party;
the conflict between pro-Assad and Arab-Kurdish militias, called the Syrian democratic forces, supported by the United States;
the attack by the Damascus army against some areas controlled by opponents of the regime.

These conflicts, if not contained, can make the war between the great powers re-explode: a war that has so far caused more than 500,000 deaths and five million refugees, destabilizing many areas of the Middle East.
