“THE TWO POPES”, A FILM BY FERNANDO MEIRELLES
The Two Popes is a fictional film that has as its protagonists the last two popes of the Catholic Church.
The director wanted to tell the story of two men of faith in the face of a difficult decision: Cardinal Bergoglio plans to retire and become a parish priest again; Benedict XVI plans to resign as bishop of Rome.
In the film three key moments in Bergoglio’s life are presented: that of his “yes” to his vocation; that of the young provincial of the Argentine Jesuits in the face of the dictatorship; and finally that of the archbishop eager to join the people, the humble ones of the Lord, el pueblo fiel de Dios.
