DEATH AND THE DIGITAL (REVOLUTION)

Amongst other aspects, the digital revolution has also profoundly changed our relationship with death, to the point of making the difference between alive and dead impalpable.
The data compiled from accounts, social networks and search engines form the digital profile of a person who continues to be present in a very different way from fictitious disguises – an avatar, or a virtual character – of Second life.

This poses a number of relevant problems in terms of mourning, i.e. the relationship with one’s own dead and the very idea of death as the ultimate point of no return. At the same time, this article stresses the relevance of this theme and of the need to deal with it, especially in a pastoral context.
